MCS STAFF MEMBER HONORED AS JR. ORANGE BOWL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
Donna Gehring, School Registrar, and Interact Sponsor was honored Tuesday evening at the Junior Orange Bowl Board Installation. She was given the James Charlton Outstanding Service Award (Volunteer of the Year) for her dedication and commitment in service this year.
HIGH SCHOOL INTERACT CLUB AND NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY AWARDED
The Miami Christian High School’s Interact and NHS Clubs were awarded a plaque, Tuesday evening at the Junior Orange Bowl Board Installation for the outstanding enthusiasm and spirit in volunteering. They received this award for their work with the Jr. Orange Bowl’s International Tennis Committee. On December 17th, the 26 students and staff from the Interact and Honor Society Clubs participated in the registration for the 10 day tournament. The students worked from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and helped organize, feed and entertain the players from about 60 different countries.

INTERACT CLUB BUSY THIS SPRING
Heifer International is a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated ending world hunger and educate environmentally by providing livestock, trees, training and other resources to help struggling families around the globe. Through this organization, the Interact Club is providing 1 heifer, 2 llamas, 2 goats, 2 tree seedlings and 2 flocks of chicks. The Club raised the $1200 to cover the cost.

Interact also had a school-wide fundraiser, “Pennies for Patients,” and raised $1,561.68 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Students annually collect spare change for this organization. The second graders won a pizza party for collecting the most per student with an average of $13.36 per student. A big thank you to all who participated and congratulations to the second grade.

The club has just held their elections and the names of the officers will be announced soon.
MIAMI HERALD SPELLING BEE
Softball and baseball are underway and our softball girls are enjoying a competitive season. The baseball team is 14-1, the best start in school history. Both Miguel Leon and Omar Hernandez have been named Miami Herald Players of the Week during the season.

Spring football starts May 1st and a football jamboree will be held on May 17th. If you are planning to play in the Fall, you will want to come out and join the team for the spring season.
Congratulations to Kaylise Taylor and Victoria Solomon who represented MCS elementary and middle schools at the Miami Herald Spelling Bee.
